April 2015 Dev Update

My apologies for the gap in providing some updates on the development side of Groupees. Ideally, I would like to do this every other month so I will do my best to keep to that cycle.

As I’m sure most of you can imagine, there’s lots of work that’s done behind the scenes and beneath the surface. Lot of non-glamorous but necessary stuff to keep things running well and make the experience generally a positive one on Groupees. Changes in APIs, new payment methods, bug fixes and the like keep our small team very busy.

On the more visible side, we just expanded status levels to accommodate our community’s growing awesomeness. Some of you are now Rock Stars and Godfathers, and we sprinkled a few new features for you. In particular, you now can add keys obtained from other sites to store in your Groupees account, and with that, the standard functions of gifting and trading will also be available for these keys. Just go to Product Purchases and click on the button in the upper right corner to add these keys. The keys will be listed in the applicable Product tab. More is on the way!

We have also been VERY busy with features intended to make things easier and better for partners to work with us. None of this is visible to our community but has consumed roughly 75% of our development focus over the past 120 days. Our goal is to make Groupees a highly desirable portal for partners to sell and promote their very best content, and we believe the development efforts we’ve undertaken will make that possible across lots of different types of media. There is still a bit more work to be done here but bottom line, this should mean more and better bundles offered to our community.

I know that sometimes things take longer than we all hope and certainly each of you may have things in particular you would like us to prioritize first, ahem — TRADING COINS!!!!!!  We do try and balance dev priorities based on community sentiment but of course have to plan things based on a number of considerations. I’m sure many of you will be excited to hear that we will begin dev planning for Trading Coins in May. This particular feature is a part of a bigger set of related features so will need to be adequately scoped and then developed fully. I will be sure to keep everyone updated on this as I realize it is something that folks care about.

I am frequently reminded of the last sentence in the book, The Great Gatsby…. “So we beat on, boats against the current,  borne ceaselessly back into the past…”. That is so true with software development but more generally life. We continue to work hard to serve the Groupees community, and we appreciate your ongoing support. And we look forward to making Groupees an even better place to be for everyone.

Now you’ll excuse me… I have a Visual Novel to finish!!!!!!!

Your friend,

Always good to had dev news sometimes.

At what level we can add outer keys to our account? I’m a Playa and I can’t see the button on my “Purchases” page.

    • Next level up, Rock Star, that feature is available. It’s a newer feature so we wanted to start with a smaller group of users. Depending on its relative popularity and once we’re confident that it’s working well, we may decide to extend to other status levels as well.

Hi Jonny! I’m excited with the new features, present and future ones! But it seems I can’t add non-Groupees keys. I fill the form (even with an image!), I click OK or whatever, and the game doesn’t appears in my list of trades. What can be happening?
Thank you for the dev efforts! and I’m waiting for the graphics novel!

    • Hi Lanark,

If you add a key, the key should show up in your Game tab list. From there, standard features should apply so you should be able to Gift it or Trade it or simply note as Used. Let me know if that’s not the case. Sorry for the delay here.

Ok Thomas, I have a complaint. Since I need to complain about something, my complaint is that I have nothing to complain about. That said, back to my Miller’s beer and Wheaties you got me started on. 🙂

    • Hey Richard,

Well now I’ve given you a reason to complain. I’m ridiculously late in replying to this post! Good to hear from you and hope to see you hanging around chat!

Thanks Thomas. I SO need to do some Seattle area brewery tours with you. If we can find a designated driver (Lindsay, I’m thinking of you) I’m sure we could hit 10 to 15 of ’em or so. On second thought, Lindsay can come with us. Cyanic is the new guy – he can drive. 🙂
